Painting Aluminium

If you're in doubt concerning the nature of the metal surface you want to paint, test it with a magnet: aluminium will not attract the magnet. To paint aluminium, Valmour recommends to proceed according to the following 2 steps :

1- PREPARATION :

First, make sure your surface is clean by brushing it with a suitable brush. Avoid sandblasting as well as anti-rust products.

The metal also needs to be completely greaseless: if necessary, eliminate any grease with  DILUVAL Thinner below.

Afterwards, apply a coat of WASH PRIMER, which will contribute to a better hold of a finishing paint on light alloy and non-ferrous metal.

2- FINISHING :

This is, strictly speaking, the painting which will give the final appearance. There are 2 types of paint:
. Monocomponent : an excellent value for money, this paint has the advantage of being less expensive and ready-to-use. Choose on of the following 3 appearances:

- mat :  use Triple Mat FLAMBO

- satiny : use TOLEMAIL SPECIAL IRONWORKS

- shiny : use SUPER SHINY LACQUER . 

3- PROTECTION :

This step is optional and allows to complete the finishing by adding a protective varnish to increase the life of the paint, and thereby prolonging the intervals between renovation. Use  MARINE VARNISH LOUIS XIII.

 Remarks : 
If you want to apply a protective high temperature paint onto an aluminium surface, do not apply a primer which would  make this paint loose its  high temperature properties. Pickle the aluminium surface and afterwards directly apply one of the following high temperature paints : TOLEMAIL Silver High Temperature 
or TOLEMAIL Black High Temperature.
