There are several types of sandstone tiles:
- raw : very strong and rustic, frost -proof, anti-slip, mostly employed for exterior use.
- glazed stoneware: easy-care, perfect for rustic interiors, kitchen work tops, bathrooms
- glazed porcellain stoneware: the example of a modern tile, ideal for the private home.
How to care for sandstone depends on its degree of porosity: find out easily by pouring a bit of water onto your tiles, if it penetrates, your sandstone is porous.
1- Porous sandstone care :
To obtain an even shiny surface and enhance the materialand the colours, glazed porcellain stoneware is submitted to mechanic polishing. Inspite of being only very lightly porous, these tiles can still get stained and dirty, and sometimes difficult to clean in-depth.
- First of all, give your floor a thorough end-of-job cleaning. Any cement veils due to previous jointing must be carefully eliminated, whithout the use of acid-containing products. Rinse well and let dry.
- Once your floor is clean and dry, apply Terrazo Sealer in one coat. Choose the yellow formula which is adapted to low porosity surfaces. Eliminate any surplus on the surface by wiping with a clean Cloth soaked in T.Solver.
- To finish, it is possible to use AVELNACRE Foriver Wax to increase the shine, afterwards care for your floor with Wash and Wax.
- If you are satisfied with the appearence obtained with Terrazo Sealer, use the Real Black Soap with Linseed Oil afterwards for practical and economical care. Never use any acid-containing products because they would tarnish the surface.
- If necessary, give your floor a thorough cleaning from time to time with Carrelax.
2- Non-porous sandstone care :
This type of tiles does not require protection but particular care during the end of job cleaning. Any applied protective coat would remain on the surface and accumulate dirt more quickly than the tile itself.
- After the laying of the tiles, clean the joints and any white veils with the help of our End of Job Stripper Louis XIII. Dilute and rinse this product with cold water. Rinse well and let dry.
- For everyday care, use Real Black Soap with Linseed Oil.
- To increase the shine, we recommend Varnishing Emulsion Floor Tiles, which will give your floor a beautiful wet waxed appearance, which is a solution for dull-looking floors. To care for your floors afterwards, use the corresponding Metallic Wax Shampoo.
